Nice single piece antique wooden Springerle Mold used for cookies, sugar, butter, or other. It feature exquisite carved details and measure 24 5/8 tall x 5 1/8 wide x 7/8 thick. The wood is warped from age and there are a few visible cracks. Still a robust mold, it has two small nails on the backside used to hang it for display. It features one male and one female dressed in very early attire.
Springerle are an anise-flavored cookie made in Germany, Alsace, Switzerland, Bavaria, and Bohemia, usually for the Christmas season. They were also known as Eier zucker. Special molds such as these are used to stamp designs into the dough, or the dough is pressed in. Actually referred to as Edible Art.
